@phendrick@Pony@yakkoTDI I’m not entirely sure I’d call the Reacher series “good.”
They’re basically the equivalent of Twilight for middle-aged men.
I’ve read almost all of them.
The series follows the books reasonably well, as far as that goes.
The 3 seasons they have for streaming thus far were each about a separate book, which gave them a lot of time for details and character development, so that they seemed to do the books reasonable justice, for what they are…
@PhysAssist I haven’t read any of the books, but that’s not surprising, since movies have such limited run time that they end up either having to cut out or compress so much of the plot &/or characters. Every once in awhile, they do it well, but it’s usually disappointing.
Lee Child writes great novels featuring Jack Reacher; I have read them all. I have also watched the movies starring Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher. Cruise’s physical appearance is nothing like the Reacher character in the books but the movies are well made and Tom Cruise is a good actor. Alan Ritchson is perfect for the TV series role. He is in perfect physical shape and although bulkier than the Reacher from the novels, he is tall and ripped. However, despite his physical looks he is not a very good actor. (My wife would disagree and she can’t get enough of looking at him).
The TV series is actually horrible. The writing is weak an acting is poor. The direction is horrible. I’m sad to say that, even though I’m an avid Jack Reacher fan, I gave up on watching the current season. It was that bad.
@accelerator first season was good for what it is (mostly mindless entertainment). season 2 … hm… ok… i’ll still enjoy. this season? it’s soooooo bad that it’s almost comical, but we’re sticking through!
@accelerator@catthegreat I chuckled at the “Who’s Sarah Connor?” line in season 2. Not the best use of the T1000, but OK. Season 3 was meh, it’s the most recent, but least memorable for me. I kept wondering when Lisa, Wyatt or Chet might show up to make things a bit more interesting.
The show that raises the question, is there anything less than 1-dimensional? “Big guy is big” gets a little old sometimes. He even walks wooden. But i dunno, the show is just kind of nuts and i enjoy it.
Really amusing that the big twist this season: There’s an even bigger guy! Didn’t Ritchson make a movie? Did anyone see it?
Can’t. Arms are too short.
@yakkoTDI Sounds like a personal problem for you!
@yakkoTDI

@yakkoTDI

Reacher?!? I hardly know her!!!
@shahnm
reacher?
You brought her- you reach er…
There should be a “I’ve never watched it” option.
@Pony I thought it was a book series.
@Pony @yakkoTDI it was [and still is, i guess], but they never leave the good ones alone…
@Pony Came here to say this.

Haven’t watched it, not interested.
The TV Show “Preacher” was great though, and I need to do a re-watch. (I believe it was FX. Currently on Netflix)
@LaserEyes yeah always P first (like for a long road trip). The P changes it to a graphic novel series. I need to re-start too now that it’s on NFlix.
What am I reaching for?
@hchavers Dreams and lubricant.
“Reacher”?
No, it was “Beecher”!
[the last minute or so is apocryphal]
@phendrick

/image beecher cheese
@Cerridwyn @phendrick living in the PNW I can say for sure that is good cheese!
Haven’t seen the series, but the 2012 movie was pretty entertaining–it’s streaming on Paramount+ right now.
@ircon96
If you’re a fan of the books at all, the series is a magnitude of order better at telling the stories the way Lee Child did in the books.

I thought that was the name of the genre for erotic giraffe movies
@babysealclub Isn’t that Jack reach around?
@accelerator @babysealclub brava to you both

@walarney
In reading the books, Reacher is portrayed pretty much as played by Ritchson.
He was also in the series Blue Mountain State, a comedy about a college football team, and the movie "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.
@PhysAssist people keep telling me that about the books but I’m still not convinced it’s a good thing
@walarney
Well, I’d prefer him to be more animated, but there is something to be said for being true to the original material.
Never seen it.
Bought a few of these 4-5 years ago. They work well, magnets are good. Think I paid $25 each. Great deal
@one_bad_rover
wrong thread?
@chienfou @one_bad_rover What, you missed out on the $25 reacher deal?!
